Getting around
Guadix is linked up to well known main roads like the N-342 which leads to Almeria or the High Alpujarras. The A92 which connects us with Granada and indeed carries on towards Seville and the west. The A92n passes through Baza and the north of the province. Guadix also has a great public transport system, with both rail and coach links to many major cities in Spain. Both these services are reliable, comfortable and competitively priced.
Learn the language
The majority of villages offer primary and secondary education for all children. Guadix has several colleges of further education, including a language school where Spanish classes are offered to non-spanish speakers.
Quality time
The Junta De Andalucia has invested heavily into sports and recreation facilities during the last few years. Swimming pools and tennis courts are not uncommon in most villages. Guadix has many cycling and walking clubs which enable you to take in the dramatic scenery of the area. During the winter months ski-ing and husky sledging are available at the "Puerta De La Ragua" (20km from Guadix). During the summertime the warm Meditteranean Sea can be reached in an hour.
Well-Being.
All villages have a local doctor. The surgery hours vary between villages with some being open only twice a week and others five days a week. The nearest general hospitals are found in Granada and Almeria, although work begins Autumn 2004 on a new general hospital in Guadix. If you are an enthusiast of alternative medicine, several private practitioners have clinics in Guadix.
Tickle your pallate
The best known Andalucian dish has to be Gazpacho, a tomato based, cold soup containing cucumber, pepper, garlic, oil and vinegar. Andalucian mountain areas normally have there own range of pork-derived products, such as jamon (ham) carne de lomo (marinated pork sirloin), chorizos, salchichon and morcilla (black pudding). Andalucian cheeses are produced locally and usually made from sheep or goats milk and are excellent company with a good wine.
